Men's Size Guide: Suits, Waistcoats, Trousers and Shoes

This size guide covers Happy Gentleman suits, blazers, vests, pants and shoes. Jacket and vest sizes follow your chest measurement in inches; pant sizes follow your waist measurement in inches. UK and US suit sizes are the same.

Suit jackets, blazers and vests

Your jacket size is your chest measurement in inches. For example, a 40-inch chest is a size 40 (M/L) jacket.

How to measure your chest

Wrap a measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, just under your armpits and across your shoulder blades. Keep the tape snug but not tight.

Jacket sleeve length (inches)

Most jackets come in Short, Regular and Long fittings. Choose Short if you are under about 5'8" (173 cm), Regular for about 5'8"–6'0" (173–183 cm) and Long if you are over 6'0" (183 cm).

Pants

Your pant size is your waist measurement in inches.

How to measure your waist

Wrap a measuring tape around your natural waistline, just above your hip bones and below your rib cage. Keep the tape level and snug but not tight.

Pant length (inside leg)

The inside leg (inseam) is measured from the crotch seam to the bottom of the pant leg.

• Short: 30 inches (76 cm)
• Regular: 32 inches (81 cm)
• Long: 34 inches (86 cm)

Suit sizes: jacket and pants

A typical drop between jacket and pants is 6 inches: a 40 chest jacket usually goes with 34 waist pants. On suits where the jacket and pants are sized separately, choose each one by your own measurements.

Shoes

Between two sizes?

If you are between two sizes, choose the larger size for jackets and coats (so you can wear layers underneath) and the size closer to your waist measurement for pants. Size exchanges are free, so you can swap the size if it does not fit.
